African Oil Palm

List Price:  $155.00

5' - 6' height  - Elaeis guineensis

African Oil Palm is perhaps the second most important commercial palm crop in the world giving place only to the Coconut Palm.

The 16' - 18' long feather-like leaves and 2' diameter trunk of the African Oil palm make it one of the most massive palms for tropical or subtropical landscapes. This is a large palm with a spread greater than a Coconut Palm and a height up to 40' in Florida and 60' in more tropical areas. Therefore, the palm has an imposing appearance and should be used at an appropriate scale.

African Oil Palms can be grown in full sun or partial shade in soils ranging from clay to sand south of Palm Beach County and further north along the coast. They are highly tolerant of wet soils and temporary flooding.

For best growth fertilize this palm with a fertilizer specifically formulated for palms at the rate of 3-4 times per year. The palm is moderately drought tolerant, but grows best in irrigated landscapes.

Delivery is included in Broward, Miami-Dade, and southern Palm Beach Counties.
