Black Olive

List Price: $150.00

9' - 12' height, 25 gallon pot, contact us for larger sizes - Bucida buceras

This tree has been overused and over planted due to its virtues of dense evergreen canopy, ability to thrive in a wide range of soils or environments and its remarkable ability to resist decay. Unfortunately, its often planted where the staining fruit that it produces will be a nuisance.

Black Olive is native to the Caribbean region and should not be confused with the true Olive of the old world. The tree has naturalized in South Florida and some believe it may have been "native" to the Keys.

Black Olives benefit from good pruning practices. Due to its resistance to decay it's able to survive destructive pruning practices such as "hatracking," but eventually the tree is weakened and may be rendered a hazard. Correct pruning every 3 years for the first 20 years of its growth can create a strong trouble free tree provided that you plant it where staining fruit will not be a problem.

Delivery is free within Broward, Miami-Dade, and southern Palm Beach County.
